RAFIX

Ultimate Flexibility

All RAFIX series are extremely flexible thanks to their modular design, consisting of an actuator and a switching element. In production and assembly, this allows you to combine elements to suit your requirements. For this reason, these RAFI products have become the standard in many HMI systems.

CONTROL COMPONENTS

The RAFIX 22 FScontrol component series is distinguished by its diversity and modularity – with virtually unlimited combination and individualization options. Different actuators and indicators ensure ideal operation of your machine or device. A modern and variable design concept enables you to individually adapt the control components to your system. Simply select bezels and front rings to match your corporate colors. This boosts brand recognition and the exclusivity of your products. All actuating elements in this series can be combined with FS technology switching elements.

  • Special tactile feedback

  • Switching elements with silver contacts (max. 250 V/4 A) or gold contacts (max. 35 V/100 mA)
  • Terminal types: PCB terminal, quick-connect terminal

ACTUATING ELEMENTS

Dust, dirt, lubricants, moisture, heat, and freezing temperatures – special solutions are required for these tough conditions. RAFIX 22 FSR meets the challenges – a series specially developed for applications wherever things can get tough. Adverse conditions reveal how far our actuators and switching elements can go, in terms of durability, cost-effectiveness, and know-how, based on proven FS technology.

RAFIX 22 FSR stands up to tough conditions. The low mounting depth of the switching elements is space-saving and enables quick assembly. Interchangeable colors and designs of the key switches and actuators provide effective orientation and clear recognition. And actuating elements are combined with FS technology switching elements.

  • Rugged and resistant to extreme temperatures
  • Moisture-, dirt- and dust-resistant
  • Mounting depth of 9.2 mm (PCB) or 27 mm (QC)
  • Top-quality stainless steel for increased stability and durability

Fast & Slim

The innovative switching element technology sets a new benchmark in the world of control components. The versatile assembly concept makes the RAFIX 22 FS+, RAFIX 22 FSR, and RAFIX 30 FS+ series cost-effective solutions. The system configuration is both flexible and modular: you can combine each FS technology switching element with any actuator in the three series. We distinguish between two assembly options.

PCB ASSEMBLY

The low mounting depth enables control component integration in low-profile systems. This concept saves you space, labor, and material. It also virtually prevents assembly errors, as the circuit diagram is integrated in the design of the printed circuit board. In addition, beautiful, low profile control panels can be realized that not only meet the functional requirements, but also stand out visually.

The FS switching elements are arranged with other components on a printed circuit board. This is subsequently mounted behind the front panel, together with the actuators and signal lamps. The switching elements “float” under the actuators on the PCB behind the front panel. You can place SMT LEDs on the PCB directly underneath the switching elements to illuminate the actuators.

  • Mounting depth RAFIX 22 FS+ and RAFIX 22 FSR: 9.2 mm
  • Mounting depth RAFIX 30 FS+: 15.8 mm

QC QUICK CONNECT TERMINAL

The QC concept is the practical alternative for applications where a PCB layout is not economically viable. You can manually wire the switching elements using common, flat quick-connect terminals (2.8 x 0.8 mm). LED clips that can be used individually in the colors of your choice evenly illuminate the actuators.

A low mounting depth is not the only thing that distinguishes the QC switching elements from conventional control components: they also do not require coupling elements between the actuator and switching element. One light click is sufficient, and both elements are inseparably connected to each other. As a result, they can be used in environments with high vibrations and shocks. Complete, tool-free assembly can also be carried out away from the operating stands.

  • Mounting depth RAFIX 22 FS+ and RAFIX 22 FSR: 26.8 mm
  • Mounting depth RAFIX 30 FS+: 32.8 mm

CONTROL COMPONENTS

The classic control component series RAFIX 22 QR is predominantly used in mechanical and system engineering, as well as automotive manufacturing. The actuators are resistant to environmental influences and provide large operation and display surfaces, making them easy to operate with gloves. A variety of front ring colors also give your application an individual design. The switching elements of the RAFIX 22 QR series have the highest rated power of all RAFI control components – up to 400 volts or 10 amperes. With quick assembly and easy wiring from the rear, users benefit from a space-saving layout of the control components.

  • Optimal for switching higher currents (max. 400 V/10 A)
  • Potential for close actuator alignment due to rear axial wiring
  • Design adaptations with different front ring variations
  • Protection rating: IP65 to the front side
  • Switching elements with silver contacts (max. 400 V/10 A) or gold contacts (max. 35 V/100 mA)
  • Terminal types: screw terminal, quick-connect terminal, cage tension clamp

CONTROL COMPONENTS

There are nine different actuators and indicators in this control series. You can choose between a round, square, or flush-fitting square collar shape, which seamlessly aligns the actuating elements in a row. The mounting hole diameter for RAFIX 16 is a standard 16.2 mm.

As a design alternative for low-profile installation in front of the front panel, you can use the sister series RAFIX 16 F. It features a 22.3 mm round mounting hole or a square hole measuring 23.1 x 23.1 mm. The RAFIX 16 F with square collar shape allows you to align the actuating elements in a row without gaps. This creates the impression of a seamless key block.

  • Rugged and suitable for operation with gloves
  • Optimal for switching higher currents (max. 250 V/6 A)
  • Potential for close to actuator alignment due to rear axial wiring
  • Design customization with collar shape variations
  • Protection rating: IP65 to the front side
  • Switching elements with silver contacts (max. 250 V/6 A) or gold contacts (max. 35 V/0.25 A)
  • Terminal types: screw terminal, quick-connect terminal, PCB plug-in socket

RAMO

Practical Benefits

Quick and easy assembly with M12 Plug & Play, plus a housing that is sealed on all sides – these are reasons why our RAMO series is the first choice of many industrial segments. You can use all common actuation functions and emergency stop versions.

BUT YOU CAN AFFORD A RAMO FROM RAFI

With RAMO, we have developed a series that is ingenious from start to finish. The focus is on fast assembly, optimal use of space, and safe switching, always with the goal of making integration into your application as easy as possible. Assembly is fast and reliable, the use of space is optimized, and the cable is completely flexible. The plug, which is angled at 135°, is designed so that you can mount the actuators in rows close together, both horizontally and vertically. You can also freely select the cable length. As a result, you avoid unnecessary costs due to superfluous cabling or maintenance work. Should a replacement be necessary, you only need to change the product affected, lessening time spent on maintenance. With EDGE, RAMO can be mounted on profiles without any additional insulated housing. This creates freedom during assembly, as well as new ways of positioning the components away from the central machine or component control panel.

DOZENS OF VERSIONS, ONE FAMILY

The RAMO 22 series with a mounting hole diameter of 22.3 mm includes a number of different versions: key switches, keylock switches, selector switches, emergency stops, and USB 3.0 or RJ 45 cable bushings, as well as signal lamps.

RAMO 30, for a mounting hole diameter of 30.3 mm, offers the same variety of components as RAMO 22. At the same time, the series is especially appealing to design-focused users, thanks to its low-profile design and stainless steel front ring. The bezel of the RAMO 30 T key switch, which is available in stainless steel, provides additional style.

FLEXLAB offers you many options for individual legending of both RAMO series. And if you want more, customized solutions are of course also available on request.

EMERGENCY STOP

Stop Easily and Reliably

Many of our control components are also available in optically matching emergency stop versions. Here you can find our entire emergency stop range with various filters, plus in-depth information on the product category.

EMERGENCY STOP

Emergency stop says emergency stop or emergency power off. Both are often used synonymously. We will clarify whether this is correct as we go on. However, what is absolutely certain is the actual switch type of the latch switch. The way the mechanism works is that the operator presses the switch to engage it. This closes a circuit and performs the desired action. Such switches are mandatory for plant and machinery – in accordance with the German industry standard EN ISO 13850, which we will discuss in more detail later on. Their purpose is to ensure the safety of employees in an industrial environment.

What is the difference between emergency stop (e-stop), emergency off, and emergency power off? What are the different types of emergency stops?

As mentioned above, every machine needs at least one, if not more, emergency stop control components. The question is: does this also mean emergency power off actuators? To find out, we can look at the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, or more precisely Annex I, Section 1.2.4.3 “Emergency stop”. So what is considered an emergency stop? The text only refers to an emergency stop if the actuator is used to avert impending danger. So there must be a difference between emergency stop, emergency power off, and emergency off. And there is. Briefly: Emergency stop actuators stop the machine, emergency power off disconnects the power supply. What about emergency off actuators? Opinions differ here. There isn’t a clear definition in industry. In some cases, emergency off is used as a generic term for the other two types, and in some cases it is used synonymously for one of them. That is why we will leave this term out in further discussion so as not to create any confusion. Further details on the distinction are provided by various standards and the Machinery Directive already mentioned.

EN 13850 and EN 60204 – Stop categories

EN ISO 13850 is a harmonized standard concerning the safety of machines, in particular it provides emergency stop design guidelines for relevant machines. Apart from EN 60204, it is one of the most important guidelines when it comes to emergency actuators. The EN 13850 standard defines, among other things, the various stop categories.

Stop category 0

Actuation immediately disconnects the power supply to the actuator elements, so the actuator acts as a normally-closed contact for the circuit. Emergency power off falls under this category. In this case, the machine is not first returned to a safe state, but may continue to run mechanically for a while. Therefore, a potential danger or risk of damage and injury still exists even after actuation.

Stop category 1

The actuator, in this case the machine emergency stop, first puts the machine or system into a safe and non-hazardous state. Only then is the energy supply to the drive elements disconnected. This category includes the emergency stop function.

Stop category 2

In a way, this is the reverse of category 0: the energy supply is maintained, but the machine is placed in a safe state. This type of stopping is not permitted for emergency stop actuators and is therefore not used.

In the annex Safety of machines of the standard EN 60204-1, we find under Electrical equipment of machines Part 1 further remarks on the difference between the actuators. The reaction after actuation of the switch is decisive. On the one hand, the emergency stop stops machine movements with potential danger in an emergency; on the other hand, the emergency power off cuts power from the entire system in an emergency. Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC adds here that emergency stop actuators must bring the hazardous process to a halt as quickly as possible while simultaneously triggering certain safety movements, if necessary. The question of whether to use emergency stop actuators or emergency power off switches for machine safety has a clear answer: The emergency stop is usually the safe choice.

Legending and color selection for emergency control components

In accordance with DIN EN ISO 13850 Safety of Machinery Emergency stop function — Principles for design, there are clear specifications on legending and colors used for emergency stop control components. They must be clearly recognizable, easily visible, and quickly localized, this is emphasized by the MRL 2006/42/EC. For this reason, the control element always has the safety color red, while the background is in the contrasting color yellow. Labels should be avoided because, according to the risk assessment, things have to happen quickly in an emergency and additional information could undermine or abort the reflex action, which can lead to hazards for people and machines.

What is the difference between emergency stop and emergency power off?

Emergency off sometimes covers emergency stop and emergency power off, so is not used due to the non-selective definition. The emergency power off switch interrupts the power supply of a machine or system to avert danger in emergencies. This means that the machine does not necessarily remain in position and may still pose a hazard. In contrast, an emergency stop first brings the machine into a safe state and then cuts off the power supply. So the emergency stop provides a higher level of safety and is used in most machines. However, one thing is the same for emergency stop and emergency power off: Actuation is by strong pressure, unlocking or resetting is by turning.
